Description
Intellectual Property law largely concerns legal rights associated with creative effort. It includes intangible creations of the human intellect. The main purpose of this law is to encourage the creation of a wide variety of intellectual goods. To achieve this, the law offers people and businesses limited property rights to the information and intellectual goods created. The economic incentives help stimulate innovation and contribute to the technological progress of nations. Intellectual property law this rewards creators by offering them a limited monopoly over the exploitation of the fruit of their labour. The best-known types of Intellectual Property Rights (IPRs) are copyright, patents and trademarks.
Delving into each of these branches required far more lectures than our four-day module. The aim of this module is to offer the audience a solid understanding of the rationale behind the protection of these intangible assets. In doing so, we shall be tackling the theoretical aspects of each branch as well as some of its practical implications. The first session shall provide an introductory understanding of IP law. The second session shall focus on the first branch of IP law, that is literary and artistic property, otherwise known as "Copyright".
The third session shall tackle trademarks & patents as the two main components of the second IP branch that is industrial property.
The fourth and final session, shall focus on certain topics that you will prepare over the course of the week and present on the final day.
